Tara Wind Farm sponsors Tara and District Historical Society Inc.

September 2026

Vestas’ Tara Wind Farm has granted Tara and District Historical Society Incorporated $5,000 towards the construction of a ramp to improve access to Tara Museum Jail.

The funding will improve accessibility to the 115-year-old jail for visitors using wheelchairs, mobility aids and prams. The jail is one of the first buildings visitors encounter when entering the museum and is a significant part of the region's local heritage.

Bob Duncan, President of the Tara & District Historical Society Inc., which operates Tara Museum, received the funding on behalf of the organisation.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support from Tara Wind Farm," Mr Duncan said.

"This funding has allowed us to construct a compliant access ramp and reopen the historic jail to visitors. Improving accessibility means more people can enjoy and learn about an important piece of Tara's history."

Each year, Tara Museum welcomes more than 1,200 visitors, including school groups, tour groups, market attendees and travellers. The museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history, heritage and stories of the local community.

"We are proud to support projects that strengthen community life and improve access to local facilities and attractions,” Andrew Wilson, Tara Wind Farm's Project Manager, said.

"Tara Museum plays an important role in preserving local history and providing educational opportunities. We are pleased to contribute to a project that will ensure more people can access and enjoy this important community asset."

The Tara Wind Farm funding program provides grants and sponsorships to support community-based organisations, initiatives and events across the Tara region.
