Project overview

The Project

Vestas proposes to construct and operate a new wind farm of up to 164 wind turbines, approximately six kilometres south of Tara in the Western Downs region, capable of generating approximately 1.2GW of low-cost renewable energy, powering up to 559,000 homes. The Project will attract an estimated investment of more than $3 billion in the Western Downs region, creating 300-400 jobs during construction and 30-40 long-term.

The Project site will be approximately 40,000 hectares; however, only a very small proportion of this will be disturbed during construction. Tara Wind Farm’s location was chosen for its abundance of strong winds and flat landscape, ideal for wind energy generation.

If approved, Tara Wind Farm will contribute to reducing 2.2 million tonnes of CO2.

Location

The proposed Tara Wind Farm development is located approximately six kilometres south of Tara township, in the Western Downs area of Queensland, approximately 300km west of Brisbane.
